New Font Find!

Hey ya'll I had to drop in to share another great free font find!! The latest find is Kimberly Geswein's Shark in the Water. I love it...well I love most handwritten fonts but this one looks really great! Below are a couple of layouts that I have used this font on and adore how they turned out. Oh and I also ran across a great customizable alpha the other day by Meghan Mullens. It is another great, must have freebie. Click on over to the Sweet Shoppe to pick it up. Its A Zoo Around Here!

It is official our little girl is now the cutest thing on the face of the Earth! No offense intended to all the other Mama's with their own 'Cutest';) At eighteen months E's new thing is roaring like a lion! She has a book that has all these different animals and each time we read I make the sounds. Well you can imagine how tickled I was as I read and roared that she too joined in and gave a huge ROAR! It was hilarious and beautiful all at the same time. She now does it when reading, riding in the car, at the dinner table, just about anytime is prime time for a ROAR! She makes the cutest faces...checkout the LO below. These were snapped during mid-ROAR! So when I go back to work should i be able to list LIon Tamer on my resume????

Yes! Yet another throw back to my love for oldies...if you are not familiar it was the Lovin' Spoonful that made that one famous! Google is for a pretty cute tune;) OK so maybe I don't believe in magic...at least not the Harry Potter kind but I do believe in cute! And cute is exactly what Magically Pink by Sugar Pie Scraps is! Take a look at this cutie patootie kit! I loved all the pink tones and mixing in black is so up my alley! The kit contains 12 papers and 50 elements so there is plenty for we digi-addicts...I mean scrappers to play with;)

Hi everyone...dropping by the blog to show you all a kit that I have fell in love with! Sugar Pie Scraps', My Love is absolutely stunning. Take a look at the rich colors and adorable elements in this one. It is perfect for Valentine's Day layouts or just to say I love you. There is no shortage of goodies in this kit...12 papers and 55 elements. I think that all of you hybrid gals would also enjoy this kit. I can only imagine how these elements would look on cards, wall hangings...just about anything.

Finding Your Balance

Balance...ah that elusive state where our lives and check books are in a state of calm and proportion. Well, there are things we can do to make balance not so elusive...in our scrapping. Have you ever completed a layout and just thought something was off? When you looked at it did your eye not snap to the focal point or did your elements and photos look our of place? Well, there is a chance that the layout could have been out of balance. I find this the most challenging design element to implement into my layouts....

True Colors...

There are a few songs that you remember from years past...that you will probably never forget. Cyndi Lauper's performance of True Colors is one of those for me. I was not a fan in fact I was in elementary school but the song was everywhere. Now as an adult I hear the song and truly listen to what it says and it is beautiful. That beauty is shared with a new kit by the same name from KakleiDesigns.

This kit contains twenty-two papers and more than sixty-five elements. It has bold colors and more muted tones...the perfect combination for a kit called True Colors! Stop on by and take a closer look at the kit and more CT inspiration.

Freebie Alert...Scrapbook Ideas

There are lots of wonderful scrapping resources online...one could spend days just pilfering through freebie lists, tutorials, and blogs devoted to this wonderful hobby. So when you finally emerge from this ocean of info...you can feel a bit inundated. So when I find a special resource or freebie I have to share.

When I find a great resource...I subscribe, follow, whatever the mode of staying up to date is;) One of the resources that I have found most helpful and information is a blog called Scrapbook Ideas. This is a wonderful site with inspiration, freebies and much more. I found this blog several months ago and have enjoyed it thoroughly. I decided to share it here this morning because Jess has posted the most wonderful freebie Valentine's Day kit. While you are at her blog be sure to read some of her posts. She has great ideas and a wealth of knowledge!

So take a look at this great freebie, leave Jess some love, and explore this wonderful blog! And I want to extend a special thank you to Jess for sharing her time, talent, and knowledge with me and everyone in the digi-scrapping community.

Embracing Imperfection

On a tip from SammyD (SDK) I have signed up to take a free online scrapbooking class at Big Picture Classes. The online class is entitled Embrace Imperfection. Here is a blurb about the class from Big Picture's website.

Many people never create the layouts they dream of creating because they are paralyzed by the fear of imperfection. They think that if their photos aren't technically excellent, their words aren't just right, or they use the wrong colors, their layout will not be worth creating. A voice in their head tells them the page is not perfect, the photo is less than ideal, and the papers are not lined up properly. They cannot stop the feelings of inadequacy from creeping into their mind and so they stare at one embellishment as they try to decide where to place it…for hours…days. Sometimes they even walk away permanently.

Is this sounding at all familiar to you? Think of all the stories that are never told, all because you aren't sure where to place an embellishment. Because you can't tell that voice in your head to "take a hike!" Because you compare yourself to an ideal that simply does not exist. It's time to squash that voice and embrace imperfection.

In Karen Gurnberg's free two week class, she will teach tangible ways to get around the most common cases of imperfection with tips and tricks to work with each problem: imperfect photos, hand-journaling, choosing embellishments, laying things out on the page, lining items up, color use, trying new things, making a mess with ink and sprays, using rub-ons and stamps. It's time to learn why you should embrace imperfection in each of these areas.

Karen is the creator of Creative Therapy. She designs for The Girls' Paperie, Pink Paislee, Write.Click.Scrapbook, and A Million Memories, and has been published in Lisa Bearnson's 50 Moments book. It is her goal to help those of you who tend to shy away from preserving your stories because your scrapbooking is inherently imperfect.

Since I have no technical training with my camera and the learning curve is stiff (Canon 40D)...I am still in Auto Mode...I find lots of my pics are shall we say less than perfect. Blogging, New Release and A Fresh Start + A SUPRISE!

I recently replied to a blogging team call for Sugar Pie Scraps. Well, low and behold I made the team! With that comes some excitement...I simply love Crystal's designs and blogging too...so I am tickled to have the chance to combine the two! Take a look at her blog and a couple of her latest releases...I'm sure you will see more of Sugar Pie Scraps in the coming months;) Oh and did I mention she just opened a new store at Polka Dot Plum...so catch the sale too!

First lets take a look at SPS' latest release My Sugar Pie. I love the combination of the more masculine colors. I could not stop my self from scrapping our little nephew...he is such a cutie! The great doodly words and word tags make this kit a Valentine's Day must...but then again it would work anytime...because love is not just a February 13th thing.

Here is what I came up with using this kit...

Next up I have some layouts using A Fresh Start...I loved the colors used in this kit. Crystal included a ton of papers and great elements. This is a very versatile kit that could scrap anything from New Year's resolutions to a "Busted" layout...this will make more sense later;)

Like I said there are lots of papers and 55 elements so you can scrap the day away. The flowers are extra special and the kit also includes several fasteners...a must for scrappers like me. Oh and don't stop reading yet because if you keep going there is great information on something that might resemble a SALE!!!!

Journaling: After Nana’s heart surgery she had to go on a strict diet: low fat, low sodium, nothing green, low cholesterol, etc. Well evidently she forgot all this during a recent trip to Cracker Barrel. I say this because she ate an entire adult order of cherry pancakes, two cups of coffee, & about five pounds of sugar in the coffee. No wonder she feels like the doctor is always behind her...it is guilt...diet guilt. No, honestly she normally does really well with her
diet. On this day she took a walk on the Culinary WILD SIDE!

I really love make layouts that will have significance to my little one if for some reason I am taken from this Earth before she really knows me. So I had the idea to make a My Wish for You layout. Well it turned in to a "We" (my husband and I) once I got started. Anyway and I found the perfect kit to use too. Have Faith by Farrah's Designer Scraps. Take a look at the kit and the layout. I can't believe that it is February already! It seems like only yesterday we were opening presents at Christmas. Well, no matter if I believe it or not...February is here. We all know that February is a special month where we celebrate love...Valentine's Day is so much fun. Now having a husband and a baby this holiday has taken on new significance for me. So when I see digital kits that celebrate love I usually go bonkers. Just like when I saw Miss Mis Designs' new Sweet Love kit. (By the way it is available today at Scrapable!) Dreamy Days

Who has not had a day where all you could do is daydream? Whether your mind is on that tropical paradise with sun, sand, and sea or just simply Friday we can all associate with the concept of dreaming a day away. For me I spent a lot of time daydreaming about having a baby. Mow that my daydream has came true I find myself in awe. When I first saw Chili Designz Dreamy Days I immediately thought of our little girl and the love we share. So of course she had to be scrapped stat! You know there really are so many wonders of the Winter season. I think snow is so beautiful...we don't usually get much here in my neck of the woods but when we do it is always beautiful. So when I saw Wonders of Winter by StephsGraphx I was in an instant Winter Wonderland! I love the little snowmen...they are always one of my favorite symbols of the season. OK I'm tired of being the odd ball! I finally broke down and downloaded the trial version of Photoshop Elements 9. Pixelmator has been my program of choice for about a year now...but I wanted to try what everyone else is talking about. Thus far i am overwhelmed by the complexity of the program. Compared to pixelmator it is cumbersome...but also more powerful. I am impressed with features like recompose and the ability to use actions. Below is my first attempt.

For all those other newbies out there I wanted to share a great video tutorial I found for recomposing photos. (I removed a post from the middle of my photo.) This video was easy to follow and dead on with its steps! As I find more resources and tutorials I will share.

Oh yeah I used a free action to achieve the vivid colors...the photo was pretty before but the action kicked it up a notch!

When you were first born it was very difficult to keep your shoes on. Because of this we have a couple of shoes that are missing their mates. Like this little white bootie...I feel sure that it was dropped in a store or parking lot...thanks to my Little Ella Tosser.

I was so happy when you got big enough for those pink boots. They were so cute! People always wanted to know where we got them. Your Mamaw Thompson has great taste in boots! The only thing was they gave you serious swamp foot.

Then it wasn't long & it was time for your first pair of Stride Rite walking shoes. You could not untie these so you stopped trying to take them off...and actually liked them. You would bring them to me...almost like you were asking to put them on.

Your most recent pair of shoes are a darling pair of velcro Mary Janes. When I saw these I had to get them for you. You like to play with the little flowers & now you are walking more in them. I mean walking all by yourself...my stylish Little Walker is growing up...

All Things Happy

Sometimes it is hard to believe just how happy our little family is! I think that is one reason I love scrapping our family memories...so we always remember all the happiness we have shared. So when I saw Project B Designs' new kit All Things Happy and the All Things Happy Template Pack I fell in digi-scrapping LOVE!! The bright yellows and oranges of this kit are sure to make everyone smile and think of Spring...or atleast warmer weather. Or maybe I though of Spring because we still have some snow hanging about. Oh well you be the judge and take a look...

So after seeing all these happy colors and pining for Spring I made several layouts...actually I got a bit carried away...but that is OK because I love all the layouts I made! So here is some inspiration...at least I hope they are inspirational! First off are two LOs of DH and I on a hiking trip to the mountains. This was right after we were married..buy was my hair long and i was several pounds lighter...pre-baby! Good times, great scenery, and now I can add this to our honeymoon book!

Soon after we were married our desire to travel took hold. We were very excited when Garry offered for us to take a week at his timeshare in the North Carolina Mountains. The hiking was great! These photos were taken while hiking the trails at Linville Falls. The last trail of the day, to the bottom of the gorge, was arduous. But when we got to the bottom we enjoyed great views and a wonderful time sitting, talking, and soaking our tired feet. It is times like this that makes life with you so worthwhile. We have Ella now and soon there will be a third pair of feet splashing with us.

The first week of 2011 found us in Christiansburg. We celebrated Christmas and had a great family dinner. After a couple of days in Christiansburg we headed back home. The evening we got home we celebrated Chrsitmas and the New Year with Nana and Shannon. Ella and Travis had been sick on Christmas so we had to push our fun back a little bit. Just being able to spend time with both of our families was a Christmas/New Year blessing. Hopefully this new year will be filled with times like these. But after all the traveling and visiting was over Ella found your cute stride. She found a makeup brush of mine and started "putting" makeup on...all by herself. She was hilarious and all this took no prompting or coaching at all...pretty smart for 16 months! I can't wait to see all the memoires the coming weeks hold for us!

I'm so excited! I have a new Shutterfly book on it's way. The only thing is my books are never in chronological order...there are always infant layouts mixed in with my newer photos. Oh well! My hopes for our family in 2011 are simple...health, happiness, contentment, time together, and lots of adventures that give us memories of 2011 that last forever.

Hopefully you will find professional happiness in 2011. You started a new job in 2010. The salary is great but I know this is not where you want to be long term. My wish for you this year is that you find a place professionally where you can thrive. Whether that means going out on your own or finding another place to work.

My dream for Ella is that she continues to grow & learn just as she has this past year. Hopefully she will continue to learn all about this world & experience all the wonderful & beautiful things that children love. I hope once she starts walking & when Spring comes we can play outside lots & that she enjoys this new outdoor world that awaits her!

My dream for me is that I can find a home based business that I can do in order to contribute more to our family. I love being a stay at home Mama but there are times where I wish I could do more.

I guess another dream/hope is that we get to travel to Colorado in the Spring. You have a possible work trip tentatively scheduled and we are so excited. I hope that everything goes well & we can make the trip. Seeing the West is a dream that we both share...& why not start with Colorado!

I hope that we can find a church that we love & learn more about God & His plan for us.

I hope that we are able to stick to our family budget and become more financially responsible. We have always been frugal but I hope that frugality can continue and equate to meeting more of our financial goals. So i guess I hope 2011 can be the year of the 'Nest Egg'!. Hopefully we can build our savings, invest more, and beef up Ella's college savings account. I know we can...so it is not a dream or a hope but more like a motto for the year. Yeah the year of the 'Nest Egg'...I like it!

Journaling: You are developing quite the sweet tooth! At first you loved all manner of fruit but now as you are growing we are seeing that sweet tooth evolve...now you are also interested in cakes, candy, and the biggie...powdered sugar doughnuts!

I think it is so adorable to watch you eat these doughnuts. The way it gets all over your little mouth. They way you lean forward to get a bigger bite...it is quite evident that you think the entire doughnut should be yours. We are still working on sharing...and since Mama and Daddy both like these sweet treats too...sharing is important!

We are struggling a bit right now trying to make the transition from baby food to table food. You will eat just a few bites of adult food and then shake your head no...that is until dessert time. I hope you are not going to turn into a picky eater like me!

drove down the road. We had just had our Christmas dinner with Nana, Aunt Shannon, Uncle Garry, Aunt Cindy, & Laurel. It was very cold that night. When we got ready to leave the restaurant Daddy picked you up & I reminded him to put your hat on. He asked me to get it out of his pocket--when I did I pulled his toboggan out. Needless to say I put it on your head and off we went in to the cold night air. When we got in the car I figured that you would go right on off to sleep but you were a trooper & stayed awake all the way home. A fun new toy does...it tend to keep a girls awake pretty well.

This year has been rough in many ways for my family, but at the close of 2010, things are looking up. We made it through the year together and with our health and happiness in tact. I would like to pay it forward.

A few months ago more than 40 designers got together to create a collaboration titled“That Much Stronger” It’s HUGE – there are over 200 papers, 300 elements, 50 word arts, 10 alphas and templates too! It’s 10 dollars at Scrabable and goes to help The Doudy Family. Chelsea Doudy of Caged Bird Designs husband was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma. He needs surgery, but without insurance the hospital is requiring the Doudys pay a deposit.

I’d like to help by having a $1 sale at both MLAS & Scrapable.

All my kits will be on sale $1.00 each. The bundle packs will be $2. The best part is that all sales from 12/17-12/31 will be donated to the Doudy Family.

New En Vogue Christmas Colors

I am normally a traditional red, green, silver and gold girl when it comes to Christmas colors. Looking back I suppose my style is more Country Christmas. I like the more muted tones, nothing overly flashy, no singing reindeer or rockin' Santas. So it surprised me a bit how much I enjoy using Miss Mis Designs' new collab with Z Pink Boudoir Designs; A Boy-sterous Christmas - Bundle Pack. This kit gives a new spin on Christmas color the cool blues and lime greens are great together. I suppose Mis is helping broaden my Christmas color palette! Below is a preview of the kit and a couple of LOs I whipped up. It is definitely starting to look like Christmas;)

Hi Ladies,

It is time for me to start a new article for GingerScraps Magazine. As I was looking for topic inspiration I started thinking about what makes me go WOW when I look at a layout. My answers came down to this.

1. Photo/journaling
2. Layering
3. Shadowing
4. Use of fasteners

My number four surprised me. Fasteners....so my call is show me your LOs that use fasteners. Show me brads, tape, ribbons, anything that 'holds' another element on your layout. All LOs are eligible...don't be shy!

This is a great way to not only share your talent but also promote your favorite designer's products. You can PM me here or leave a comment in this thread with a link to your LO. I'll forward over a submission form and you could be on your way to being published. I will review submissions on 12/20/2010 and reply back on 12/21/2010 to all applicants.

I had a post recently that stated that there are a couple of design tools that I love to use when digi-scrapping. I have a new one to add to my stash! Take a look at Project B Designs' new release Clippers. There clipping mats are awesome!! Included in the pack are 9 mats with varying edge and punch designs. They are sized to 3200x3200 pixels so you can go with a large mat or scale it down to fit your needs! Take a look at the preview and the LO I made (using 3 Clippers). Yep! I have a new page creating shortcut!!!

It amazes me sometimes the talent that digital scrapbook artists have. I recently answered a one kit call at DST for a kit called Eclectically Me. I fell in love with kit after I saw the preview. I loved the bold colors and funky elements! But after downloading the kit I was blown away by the talent of the young lady behind Shiloh Designs. Shiloh is only 19. She is not yet in a store right now! So if you know of any stores looking for fresh new talent you should send them her way. Her blog is currently under construction but I plan on keeping an eye on future releases from the talented designer.

Whew it has been a busy morning. The baby and I have played and she is taking her mid-day nap...so Mama is having her does of blog time!
